The Wharton school of The University of Pennsylvania

It is the No.1 Business school in US. Its details are as follows

Wharton was founded in 1881 as the first collegiate business school, and that spirit of innovation still drives us today. We offer a distinctively collaborative MBA experience, unparalleled academic and career resources, and a commitment to learning and personal growth.

Innovation
Wharton was the first collegiate business school in 1881, and that spirit of innovation still defines us today. Our professors create the new ideas that are transforming businesses and governments around the world. And they bring that cutting-edge knowledge into the classroom, so Wharton MBAs take the lead in innovating the new ideas of the future.

Business Knowledge
Wharton has the largest business school faculty in the world – 250+ faculty members, including visiting executives and associated faculty. The most published, the most quoted, the most actively engaged with global businesses and public policy, they know how to prepare MBA students for what businesses, governments, and international agencies need – because they're working directly with these organizations every day.

Size and Scope
With more courses and programs than any other business school, Wharton provides more opportunities to acquire both fundamental and specialized skills. With our wide variety of classes, you have the flexibility to pursue the areas that most interest you, even to create an individualized major. You'll leave Wharton with the high-level knowledge and range of skills to master new challenges, expand your choice of careers, or reposition yourself in a new industry.

Leadership Learning
At Wharton, you learn leadership by doing it. Our hands-on learning methods give you daily practice in leadership, with learning teams, leadership ventures, and learning simulations that Wharton pioneered and now licenses to other schools. You have daily opportunities to build the skills of organization, persuasion, and team-building that recruiters tell us they value in our MBA graduates.

Global Alumni Network
Wharton has the largest alumni network of any business school – 80,000+ alumni in 140 countries. Your connections begin with the friends and contacts you make during your two years on campus, as well as our sophisticated resources for professional development and career management. And then they can see you through all the changes and new events of your career. Wherever you are in the world, you can call on a Wharton graduate for help, advice, and support.

Engaged Community
With hundreds of activities – from clubs and conferences to student government and volunteer work – our community draws its energy from the unique contributions of each year’s students. From high-tech Huntsman Hall, to lively and diverse Philadelphia, to the New York/Washington DC/Boston corridor just a train ride away, Wharton offers the widest possible variety of local and regional opportunities.

Academics & Learning

At Wharton, learning is something you do. You actively engage in the challenges of today's global business with analytical, rigorous thinking. You learn how to make decisions, reason strategically, and understand all the dimensions of a business problem. Our 250+ faculty members work directly with leading businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies around the world, so they can bring real-world, real-time knowledge to an unparalleled depth and breadth of courses.

Leadership Learning

In our active, entrepreneurial culture, you learn leadership in practice, applying classroom knowledge to a wide range of personal and professional settings.

Learning teams

Your first-year MBA experience centers on your learning team, a tight-knit group of five to six randomly selected students who work together throughout the year.

International opportunities

Wharton's reach extends across the globe, with a wide range of options for international study and work experiences, including consulting projects, exchange programs, and cultural and language immersion opportunities.

Financing Your MBA

We are committed to helping you finance your education. Financing and financial aid options are available to all students, including international students. Federal and private loans are offered to domestic and permanent residents. A variety of fellowships, scholarships, assistantships, and need-based grants are available to all students, including underrepresented groups, women, early career and direct-from-undergraduate candidates, and international students. You will receive information about all these options once you are admitted.

As an MBA student, you contribute to such program costs as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and health insurance. We encourage everyone considering an MBA to save income and assets, reduce consumer debt, and prepare for a moderate student lifestyle.

Cost Summary

The educational budget for first-year students in the academic year 2008-2009 is $80,000, broken down as follows:

Educational Budget – Academic Year 2008-2009
Tuition and Fees
(Includes $1,650 Pre-Term fee)
$50,430
Health Insurance $2,600
Room and Board $21,398
Books and Supplies $1,736
Miscellaneous $3,836
TOTAL $80,000

Students may borrow up to the Student Budget less Expected Student Contributions (ESC). Informaton about student loan programs is available through Student Financial Services (SFS), the public service Finaid website or the External Funding Sources section of the MBA website.

You should plan for increases in tuition and fees for each year of enrollment. However, Pre-Term costs apply only to the first year of the program.

If you are married and/or have dependents, you may face higher costs. If you have extenuating circumstances, you can request a budget reevaluation to borrow funds above the set student budget once the fall semester has started. But this increase can only be approved for purposes and amounts that fall within guidelines set by the University and federal law.

The following expenses cannot be used to increase the student budget:

  • Credit Card Debt
  • Security Deposits
  • Cell Phones/Internet Service
  • Travel Expenses
  • Furniture
  • Summer Living Expenses
  • Computer Purchases
  • Moving Expenses
  • Car Expenses/Rentals/Parking
  • Entertainment
  • Club Dues and Activity Fees
  • Clothing
  • Job Search - Related Expenses

The Global Immersion Program is an optional offering and therefore not factored into the educational budget.

Enployment

You are encouraged to commit yourself to full-time study during the academic year as the curriculum is rigorous and challenging. Teaching and research assistantships may be offered directly through faculty members once you are enrolled.

Loan Programs

As an MBA is a long-term investment, most students rely on loans to cover some or all of their education or living costs. At Wharton, approximately 87 percent of students borrow from one or several loan programs, and students have the right to select the educational loan provider of their choice.

Wharton does not endorse any specific lender nor receive compensation from any lender, and we encourage students to compare the fees and terms of all student loan products to determine which ones are best suited to their individual needs. Information on loan programs available can be found at www.sfs.upenn.edu/loans.

HTML clipboardU.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident Students

Listed below are the current loan offerings for U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. These financing options are subject to change.

Federal Stafford Loan/Grad

Federal Stafford Loans are available from many lenders. The goal is to offer competitive fees, favorable repayment benefits, ease of application and electronic disbursement of funds directly to your student account.

Alternative Loans

Alternative loans are available either through the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan program (Grad PLUS) or private educational lenders. These programs have different terms and conditions associated with them. Lenders may offer borrower benefits to potentially reduce the overall cost of the loan to you.

International students

For international students, most lenders require a U.S. citizen or permanent resident cosigner, though Citibank does have a program available not requiring a cosigner.

If you are an international student who is neither a dual U.S. citizen nor a U.S. permanent resident, we encourage you to investigate all sources of funding within your home country, including government and private scholarships and loans. International students have access to Citibank's loan program, which is offered without a co-signer. For more information, visit: www.studentloan.com/schools/upenn. (Please note: the availability and terms of condition of this program, as with all financing options, are subject to change.) If you have a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident co-signer you may want to consider applying to one of the alternative loan programs also found on the website indicated above.
